Thinking of becoming a celebrant

Thinking of becoming a celebrant?

Being an independent celebrant can be a great job. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that you have helped a family at a time of bereavement. Or enabled two people to experience their perfect wedding.

Perhaps you have been inspired by an exceptional funeral celebrant. Or maybe you have been dispppointed by a really poor ceremony and felt you could have done much better.

Celebrancy is a great profession but there is a lot to consider. Do you have all the skills and the temperament required? Will you find enough work? Are there already many established celebrants in your  location? Will you be able to earn enough?

For anyone considering it as a career, SICA can give you information and advice on what it’s really like to be a celebrant and what it takes to make it work for you. See our FAQ document, which you can download from this page – it gives advice on training, including details of a short “Considering Celebrancy” course offered by one of our most experienced members that could save you a lot of time and expense.

SICA Membership

For those of you who do become celebrants, membership of SICA gives you full insurance, opportunities to network and to access ongoing CPD activities. We also run a Peer Review process which is a wonderful opportunity to shadow fellow celebrants and receive constructive support on your own work. We arrange regular meetings, have an active Facebook group, and the committee is always available to offer guidance, if you require it.
