The legal situation in Scotland
In Scotland, the only people who can carry out legal marriages are registrars, clerics, and celebrants who are affiliated to belief or faith organisations which are approved by The Registrar General of Scotland.
Some SICA members are in this position and so can carry out a legal marriage for you as well as conduct your perfect ceremony. Others choose to remain completely independent – that means they can conduct a beautiful ceremony based entirely on your beliefs and values, but you would just need to have a brief procedure with the local registrar too, to cover the legal part of the marriage. Of course, if you are visiting Scotland for your wedding you may prefer to carry out the legal procedure in your own country first.
