What is SICA?
Welcome to our website! The Scottish Independent Celebrants’ Association is a bit of a mouthful, so we call ourselves SICA for short.
We are a professional body, proudly representing the Independent Celebrants of Scotland.
Whether you are looking to find the perfect celebrant for your ceremony or are a professional celebrant yourself,
we can support you on your journey. We are passionate about our work and about the craft of creating bespoke ceremonies.
We seek to promote and support the highest standards of Scottish Celebrancy.
What is a Celebrant?
In short, a celebrant is a person who conducts a formal ceremony in the community.
As the name suggests, the ceremony will usually be a celebration, honouring a life lost, welcoming a new life or identity, or marking an important rite of passage. The celebrant works closely alongside their families and clients to ensure a stress free and tailored experience. The ceremonies will be beautiful, meaningful and memorable.

All our celebrants here at SICA are committed to supporting people to reflect their ideas and beliefs in the ceremonies they offer. Each ceremony is bespoke. Legal Weddings and SICA Celebrant Affiliation
Some of our SICA members are authorised to conduct legal marriages in Scotland. This legal authority is granted through their membership in an authorising organisation recognised by the Registrar General.
When any celebrant in Scotland conducts a legal marriage, they are doing so under the name and authority of their affiliated belief body. This distinction matters, and we believe in being transparent about it.
To support clarity and trust, SICA members that are authorised to conduct legal marriages clearly state their authorising body along with a link to that organisation’s website on their celebrant profile. This authorisation is separate from their SICA membership.
